What To Write Or Say On A Personalized Valentine’s Gift

January 25, 2009 by Romantic · Leave a Comment

On Valentine's day millions of people worldwide will be giving their special someone a personalized valentine's gift. These personalized valentine's gifts can range from a tea cup to a personalized calendar (the latter being a much better Valentine's day present). If you need a more thorough guide on selecting a customized gift then read our post on customized gifts here.

If you are going to order a gift we recommend Getting Personal. It is the most popular personalized gifts in the UK. However selecting a personalized gift is only the first part of your Valentine's Day present. The second part question is:

What do you put on the personalized gift?

This question is not easily answered as it's dependant on a few factors.  However, here is a little guide to hopefully help you pick the proper thing to write.

What stage your relationship is in will depend on the wording for your gift.

New relationship: If you are in a fairly new relationship then putting "I love you" or something of that nature is probably not the best option.  You should consider using something like "Be my Valentine" or "Will You Be Mine?"

Long loving relationship: If you've been in a relationship for a while then using a term like "Be my valentine" might give off the wrong impression.   Instead opt for "I Love You, will you be my valentine" or something a bit more personal.

What gift you select or make will depend on what you write.

Practical and Useful: If you've selected something practical and useful to personalize (like a coffee mug or mouse pad) then you don't want to make the writing quite as personal.  Something like "be my valentine' or 'I love you' will be sufficient in this case.

Something more personal (like a calendar): You can customize this and write whatever you would like on this.  Possibly a poem if you're linguistically inclined.

Whichever gift you select to personalize be sure to put lots of thought into what to write on the gift.  That's what personalized gifts are so special.  You must select the proper gift AND the proper thing to say.

Selecting the Proper Customized Valentine’s Gifts

One of the great things about Valentine's day is making customized Valentine's gifts.  I'm not talking something that you would make in primary school we're talking about being selecting a useful item or gift and getting that properly customized.  You simply have to put a little thought into selecting and customizing the gift.  So how do you go about making a good customized valentine's gift?  Here are some simple tips for you to pick the correct personalized gift.

1) Brainstorm what he or she likes

You should grab a piece of paper and write down all the things that he/she likes.  For example:  Golfing, Football, Scotch and TV.

2) Think of things that he/she might need or want

Using the list of things that he/she like to do you think of things that he/she might want or use.  Don't worry too much about trying to determine if you can personalize the object. For example: golf balls, golf tees, golf towel, football magazine subscription, tumbler glass for scotch, more bottles of scotch, etc..

3) Browse a store which sells customized valentine's gifts such as Getting Personal.

From the list above I can see that the golf items are all customizable.

4) Now getting something engraved (or written) on the selected item.

When selecting what to get engraved on the item first think of the use of the item.  For example the golf towel you probably don't want to get both of your names written on it.  It would be better as something like "I love you" or something along those lines.  Be creative but also think of the use of the item prior to getting it engraved.

Of course, if you have ran out of time and can't make something customized then you can always order chocolates (Chocolate Trading Company), flowers (Next Day Flowers) or a gift hamper (First4hampers) and get it rush delivered.  Plus you can take solice in the fact that guranateed you weren't the only person to do this!

5) A Cool Experiences

Men, in general, are much more adventurous then ladies.  What better way to show your adventurous side then to buy him a cool experience for Valentine's day. What do we mean by cool experience? You can make a coffee cup, mouse pad, Champagne Bottles engraved or any other item.

8) Get Him Pampered

Yes men enjoy getting pampered too.  You can get him a massage, facial or even manicure.  It's not uncommon for men to get a manicure now.  Worried that he won't like the present then buy yourself the same treatment and it can be a couples day together!

Suggested Retailers: SpaFinder or Red Letter Days

9) Shaving Supplies

Although, we may not enjoy shaving all the time we do enjoy having the proper and good quality supplies. Plus, if we know that you enjoy our fragrance after shaving we're much more likely to shave. Therefore, think about getting some shaving supplies or cologne.

Suggested Retailers: CheapSmells.com or Adonis Grooming

10) Man Flowers

The man equivalent to flowers is beer (or wine if that's what he prefers). Get him a case of beer for valentine's day. If you think he's never heard of the term 'Man Flowers' a fun trick is to wrap the beer like a bouquet of flowers. Although, this works much better with Wine as you can make the wrapping look very much like flowers.
